Basically, you bite off diagonal corners of the tim tam, and drink hot coffee, chocolate, or tea through the tim tam like a straw. It makes the chocolate all melty and gooey and THIS is the food I’ll miss most when I leave Australia. There is NOT a lot of American food here. Too much sugar, low quality ingredients, hfcs, etc. Cuisine is one of the most characteristic markers of a country’s image, and even though you can get burgers in Thailan pad Thai in Spain and paella in South Africa, some argue that to really experience the quality of a regional food , you’ve got go there and have it in its natural habitat.
No, sad is thinking an Aussie would look at truffles and say ooh - American food ! You rarely find WiFi in a cafe in Australia.
You know Starbucks is not a thing and you drink flat whites. Fresh coffee made by a barista is what Australia is all about. OK, I haven’t actually tried it, but it looks so unappealing in the ads and posters in the store windows — more so than any other fast food chain — I just can’t imagine why anyone ever would. One thing I think is great about American food , however, is all the regional. Maybe Australia has its own problems with obesity, but I’d rather overeat on these foods than at Taco Bell.
