Notary oath of office

What are the rules of being a notary? What is the oath that a notary give before signing? Who gives the notary their oath of office? Both are legally binding promises to tell the truth and subject the oath-taker or affirmant to penalties for perjury. The person taking the oath or affirmation must be physically present before you.


Oath of Office I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support, obey, and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Utah, and that I will discharge the duties of my office with fidelity.

This must be done within calendar days from the commencement date of the commission. This day period cannot be extended. Statutes provide for filing the oath and bond by mail. The notary shall include the name of the individual making the statement (or taking the oath ), the notary seal, commission expiration date and commission number.
