Here are the steps to take to troubleshoot the issue: Thread the Machine Properly Re-thread the upper part of the sewing machine making sure the thread is passing through every single thread guide on its way to the needle. This will allow us to move the gears without damaging the bobbin case or the presser bar. Blow out the bobbin case with air, remove any stray threads, and put a drop of oil on the mechanism where the parts slide over each other, keeping it out of the area where the bobbin sits. You may need to change it. A standard tune up from your local PFAFF dealer will remedy this. Place your lifter bar to the horizontal level (work turning while needle is down), this will engage the machine. I gave them a try, and they are working great in my HD9. A massive nest of tangled thread is usually a result of the sewing machine being improperly threaded.


To correct this problem, put the presser foot up and unthread the sewing machine entirely. Rethread the machine with the presser foot up. Typically, an incorrect stitch length that is too short can cause troubles with the fabric.

When I went to pick up the machine I was told that it was just some issue with the top thread tension settings which they had adjusted. Unfortunately once I got home and tried sewing the problem occurred again. So I took the machine back for the second time and they replaced the bobbin case and stitch plate. Tension setting on a sewing machine requires a little more than just adjusting the presser foot tension. Sewing machine bobbin tension plays an important part too and changing bobbin tension is crucial for the success of all sewing projects!
